H for Huntress

Day 8 of the A to Z Challenge. Today's offering:

H is for Huntress by L.J. Smith

BOOK BLURB:
Jez Redfern is unique. She's a vampire hunter... who's half vampire. Raised in the Redfern family, the girl with fiery hair and silvery-blue eyes was the undisputed leader of a gang of vampire raiders. Then came the discovery that shattered her life-- her mother was a human. Now, Jez hunts her former friends, protecting humans from the Night World.
But when Circle Daybreak sends her on a search for one of the legendary Wild Powers, Jez has to rejoin her old gang. They want her back-- especially Morgead, the gorgeous green-eyed vampire who used to be her second-in-command. Jez wants to stay faithful to Hugh Davis, the human she loves. But Morgead swears he's her soulmate and he'll do anything to lure her back to the old ways. With danger and temptation around, Jez finds herself irresistibly drawn to him. And she's afraid that if she tastes blood again, she'll become the evil huntress she once was..
COVER RATING: On a scale of 1-9
This cover I totally old school, and such a wonderfully under used AND completely unique style of cover. Those are what earned this book such a high rating!

MY THOUGHTS:
So monday and today are my dedication to L.J. Smith. She is one of my heroes! I loved her books since the first time I picked one up. Coincidently it was this book Huntress, part of her Night World Series. I find it funny that the Vampire Diaries was the hit TV shoe because it was my least favorite of all her series that she wrote. The Night World series is a vast one, and in recent years was rereleased in compilation format, similar to what was done with the Daughters of the Moon series.

This whole series is based in one big world, centered around a group called Circle Daybreak, but each book is the story of different characters rooted in action, drama, teen romance, and fantastical characters. All the things I need to really hook into a book. What was truly amazing was that not al the books had the typical happily ever after ending. And I love these books all the more for it.

Jez thought she was a full-blooded vamp, but not so. She’s half human and when she learns that she runs away to live with the human side of her family. But the Circle draws her back in to fight her worst enemy, best friend, and soulmate, Morgead Blackthorn, for the Wild Power. Turns out he doesn’t have it, and after several misleads, Jez finds out that she has the Wild Power and their enemy Lily will kill to have it! NO spoilers, but you really should go check out this book and all the books of the Night World Series!

There you go, come back tomorrow for day 9!
Later lovelies!
